DERBY — Jade Martel, a 28-year-old man from Brighton, is set to be arraigned on charges of domestic assault, driving under the influence, and driving with a suspended license following an incident at a Wal-Mart in Derby, according to the Vermont State Police.

Late Tuesday night, local authorities were alerted about an altercation in the store’s parking lot.

Police reports indicate Martel caused injury to a family member, whose identity is being withheld due to the nature of the crime.

Upon arrival at the scene, troopers discerned signs of impairment from Martel.

Further investigation revealed he had driven to the location with a criminally suspended license and a mandatory requirement for an ignition interlock device — a device that was not found in her vehicle.

Martel was subjected to a screening for suspicion of DUI and subsequently taken into custody without incident.

He was processed at the Derby barracks, and a court has since imposed a $1,000 bail and conditions of release.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Orleans Criminal Court at 12:30 p.m. today.
