NEWPORT — A former Newport resident is facing multiple charges, including aggravated felonious sexual assault and trafficking in persons, following a year-long investigation involving multiple law enforcement agencies.

Joshua Munsey, 38, was indicted by the Sullivan County grand jury on multiple charges stemming from the suspected physical and sexual abuse of a minor child in Newport.

The initial information that led to the investigation came from the Lexington, Kentucky Police Department in 2022.

Munsey is charged with four counts of aggravated felonious sexual assault, alleging a pattern of sexual contact with a child under the age of 16 over a period of two to five years.

These charges are special class felonies that carry a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in New Hampshire State Prison.

In addition, Munsey faces two counts of trafficking in persons. These indictments allege that he paid a child under the age of 16 to engage in sexual acts and compelled the victim to perform service or labor through threats of physical harm.

These charges are class A felonies with a maximum sentence of 7.5 to 15 years in New Hampshire State Prison.

Munsey is also charged with three counts of second-degree assault. These indictments allege two acts of strangulation on a child under the age of 13, and one act of strangulation on an adult intimate partner.

Munsey is currently incarcerated in Kentucky awaiting trial on related charges.

Following the adjudication of his Kentucky charges, he will be extradited back to New Hampshire to face the indictments.

The Newport Police Department extends gratitude to multiple local and state agencies for their assistance throughout this case.

The investigation is ongoing, and further charges are anticipated. Anyone with additional information is urged to contact Detective Alexander R. Marvin at 603-863-3232.
