OSSIPEE — A boat fire on Ossipee Lake resulted in injuries and damage to a local marina on June 20, according to the New Hampshire State Police Marine Patrol.

At around 2:45 p.m., members of Ward’s Boat Shop were conducting a water test on a 1998 Hurricane deck boat by Godfrey Marine Company.

The boat’s operating systems began to falter, and while attempting to return to the boat launch, the vessel caught fire.

The operator of the boat, Kevin Wells, 68, of Freedom, New Hampshire, sustained superficial burns but was otherwise unharmed.

The boat eventually came to rest against the docks at the Lakefront Landing Marina, causing fire damage.

Fire units from Center Ossipee Fire, West Ossipee Fire, Action Ambulance, and New Hampshire State Police Troop E & Marine Patrol responded to the scene, alongside the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services.

The boat was removed from the lake at the launch ramp, and the incident is currently being investigated by the New Hampshire State Police Marine Patrol. It is not considered suspicious at this time.

Anyone with information related to the incident is encouraged to contact Sergeant Joshua Dirth at (603) 227-2115.
