LEICESTER — A late-night shooting on Sunday in Leicester has left one man dead and another critically wounded, according to the Vermont State Police.
Both men, whose identities are being withheld pending the investigation, were victims of what police believe to be a targeted shooting.
The injured man was initially treated at Porter Medical Center in Middlebury before being flown to the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, where he remains in critical but stable condition.
An autopsy is pending for the deceased victim.
Authorities believe that the shooting, which occurred at a property at 1352 U.S. Route 7, was a targeted event and there is no broader threat to the public.
The crime scene will be processed by the Vermont State Police Crime Scene Search Team.
Police are seeking a suspect or suspects linked to the incident, along with a black Nissan sedan that was seen leaving the scene following the shooting.
The state police urge anyone who may have seen something suspicious or out of the ordinary between 9:30 – 10 p.m. Sunday near the scene to contact the VSP New Haven barracks at 802-388-4919.
