Fatal crash in Albany leaves 3 dead, 1 injured

ALBANY — A two-vehicle crash in Albany today resulted in three fatalities and one serious injury, according to the Vermont State Police.

The crash occurred at 3:30 p.m. on Vermont Route 14, near Griggs Road.

Troopers from the VSP Derby Barracks and Crash Reconstruction Team, responders from the Albany and Irasburg Fire Departments, and a deputy from the Orleans County Sheriff’s Department responded to the incident.

Upon arrival, both occupants of vehicle 1, a 2016 Chevrolet Sonic, were pronounced dead.

The driver of vehicle 2, a 2011 Honda Accord, was pronounced dead shortly thereafter despite lifesaving efforts.

A passenger in vehicle 2 was airlifted from the scene by a Dartmouth-Hitchcock Advanced Response Team helicopter and is in stable condition with serious injuries.

A preliminary investigation suggests that vehicle 1 was traveling south on Vermont Route 14 when the operator attempted to pass another vehicle, crossing into the northbound lane of travel.

In the area of Griggs Road, vehicle 1 collided head-on with vehicle 2, which was traveling north in the northbound lane of travel.

The crash resulted in an approximately 3.5-hour road closure.

The identities of those involved are temporarily being withheld pending next-of-kin notification.
