Fatal motorcycle crash in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE — A motorcyclist died in a crash with a car in Charlotte this afternoon.

According to Vermont State Police, the crash occurred around 3:38 p.m. on Route 7, south of Church Hill Road.

Timothy Williams, 34, of Essex, was driving northbound on his 2014 Yamaha motorcycle when he struck the back of a 2018 Toyota RAV4, also traveling north.

Williams was ejected from the motorcycle on impact and pronounced dead at the scene.

The operator of the Toyota RAV4, David Pearson, 71, and his passenger, Candis Pearson, 69, both of Hinesburg, were wearing their seatbelts and sustained only minor injuries.

Candis Pearson was transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center for evaluation.

Initial investigations and witness statements suggested that Williams was traveling well in excess of the posted 50 mph speed limit before the crash.

The Vermont State Police Crash Reconstruction Team was called to assist in the investigation.

The Vermont State Police were assisted on scene by the Shelburne Police Department, Shelburne Fire and Rescue, Charlotte Fire and Rescue, and Handy’s Towing Service.

Route 7 was closed for an extended period of time while the investigation was ongoing.

This is an ongoing investigation.
