DUI crash in Richmond snaps utility pole, trapping occupant

RICHMOND – A 64-year-old man from Richmond was arrested for driving while intoxicated after crashing his vehicle into a telephone pole on Fitzwilliam Road in Richmond yesterday.

Troopers, Richmond Fire Department, and EMS responded to the scene at approximately 6:49 p.m.

The initial reports indicated that the pole was snapped in half, resting on top of the vehicle, and the top of the pole had caught on fire.

One occupant in the vehicle was entrapped due to live wires down in the area and could not be extricated until the power was shut off.

Once the power was off, the operator of the vehicle, identified as Mark Allen, was removed.

Allen displayed indicators of impairment and was subsequently arrested for driving while intoxicated.

He was bailed and released with a Keene District Court date of April 4, 2023.
