DUI charges after vehicle hits guardrail in Derby

DERBY — A 22-year-old man from Charleston was arrested for DUI and negligent operation following an incident in Derby yesterday.

Authorities say they were notified of a vehicle all over the road and that had hit the guard rails east of Salem Derby Road on Vermont Route 105 at around 10:20 p.m.

Police say the vehicle had become disabled in the middle of the road.

Upon arrival, the driver was identified as Andrew Merrill.

Police say Merrill displayed multiple signs of impairment and as placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI and negligent operation.

He was processed and released from the Derby barracks with a citation to appear in court.
