SURRY — A fatal fire broke out in Surry early this morning.
The blaze took place at on Webster Road.
Tragically, the fire resulted in the death of Malcolm Franzen, a 65-year-old resident of Surry.
According to the autopsy report, Malcolm died due to inhalation of products of combustion, and the fire officials confirmed that his death was accidental.
Firefighters arrived at the scene at around 1 a.m. and discovered that the back bedroom was already engulfed in flames.
The fire had already spread extensively, and it was about to extend to the rest of the structure.
A state police trooper on the scene escorted the woman from the door and informed the firefighters that there was still one person inside the house.
The firefighters promptly entered and found Malcolm in the back bedroom, where they believe the fire started.
Investigators have not identified the cause of the fire at this time.
