UNITY — A 54-year-old man from Acworth, New Hampshire, was arrested following a crash in Unity on Saturday.

The single-vehicle crash took place on Unity Springs Road at around 9:20 p.m.

According to the report, the vehicle crashed into a tree and the driver fled the scene on foot.

On arrival, troopers and local officers from the Newport Police Department located a Volkswagen Passat with heavy front-end damage.

Police say that just prior to the crash, the suspect vehicle had passed another vehicle on a double yellow line during poor weather conditions which directly resulted in the vehicle losing control and crashing.

Police quickly located a set of footprints in the snow and followed them for approximately two miles until they ended in a wooded area on Gilman Pond Road in Unity.

The driver was located, and identified as James Brandt.

Brandt was bailed and released on personal recognizance bail conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on February 14.

He is being charged with driving while intoxicated, conduct after an accident, reckless operation, and disobeying an officer.
