BERLIN — A 37-year-old man from Connecticut was arrested in Berlin on Friday.

Authorities say they were notified of a suspicious event that occurred in the Berlin Mall parking lot involving a possible kidnapping with a fire arm involved.

Following an investigation, it was found that Barry Perez, of Hartford, had brandished a fire arm at a tractor-trailer driver who had stopped at the scene of a motor vehicle rollover to check on the status of the driver of the box truck on I-89.

The tractor-trailer driver was told to drive by Perez and eventually the vehicle stopped at the Berlin Mall, where the driver was able to escape Perez and call 911.

Police say Perez remained on scene in the vehicle.

Due to concerns that Perez was armed with a firearm, a tactical response was conducted by officers of the above listed agencies.

Perez was safely taken into custody for the charges of kidnapping, unlawful restraint 1st degree, aggravated assault, and reckless endangerment.

He was transported to the Berlin Police Department for processing and brought to court where he was held without bail.
