Man charged with DUI, cruelty to a child in Shaftsbury

SHAFTSBURY — A 19-year-old man from Bennington was arrested in Shaftsbury yesterday.

Police say they initiated a traffic stop for a vehicle traveling at 75 miles-per-hour in a posted 50 miles-per-hour zone at around 8:20 p.m.

The driver, identified as Eryk J. Hunt, also had a civilly suspended driver’s license.

Following an investigation, police say that Hunt was operating the motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

Police say a juvenile was also found unbuckled in the bed of the pickup truck being operated.

Hunt was taken into custody for the suspicion of DUI and cruelty to a child.

He was also issued numerous VCVC’s as a result.
