Northfield man arrested in connection with Brookfield shooting

BROOKFIELD — A 24-year-old man from Northfield was arrested following a shooting incident in Brookfield.

On August 21, authorities were notified that a man with a gunshot wound was found at a home on Halfway Brook Road at around 8:50 a.m.

Following an investigation, police identified Joshua Demar, 37, of South Royalton, as the man who was shot.

He was hospitalized overnight at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington.

The individual who fired the gun was identified as Jarek Duggins, 24, of Northfield.

According to the report, police say that there was a physical altercation between the two which was instigated by Demar prior to the shooting.

Yesterday, Duggins was arrested for aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.

Duggins was released with a citation to appear in court on January 18.
