RUTLAND — A 38-year-old man is facing federal charges after being arrested in Rutland on Friday.

Authorities say they were dispatched to a report that someone who witnessed the theft of a firearm, had the suspect detained.

Police arrived and took Nicholas Karov, of Rutland, into custody for the theft of the firearm and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

Karov was held in custody in lieu of $5,000 bail until his arraignment.

Due to Karov being a convicted felon and a routine drug user in possession of a firearm, local police requested assistance from federal partners with this case.

Once Karov was released from state custody at arraignment, federal agents arrested him and took him into federal custody, police say.

He was arraigned today on federal charges and was ordered to remain held in federal custody pending trial.
