SPRINGFIELD — A 67-year-old man from Rutland sentenced to 40 years to life in prison died in Springfield on Tuesday.
Police say Dan Griswold was found unresponsive in his cell by Department of Corrections staff at about 11:05 a.m.
Emergency medical care provided by DOC staff and responding EMS personnel was unsuccessful.
He was pronounced deceased at the facility at about 11:30 a.m.
Police say there are no indications through preliminary investigation that the death is suspicious.
Griswold has been in state custody since 1998 for aggravated sexual assault.
Police say his minimum release date was December 2025.
