FAIR HAVEN — A 40-year-old man from New York was arrested for retail theft following an investigation in Fair Haven.

On July 24, authorities say they were notified that a man had pumped gas into a five-gallon container and fled on foot at Stewarts on Dutton Ave.

Following an investigation, police identified David N. Bratianu Jr., 40, of Hampton, NY, as the suspect and had been actively looking for him.

Last Friday, police say they located Bratianu operating his vehicle on Washington Street and conducted a traffic stop.

During the stop, police say they found a large number of grocery items in the vehicle and that Bratianu could not produce a receipt for them.

Police say they obtained a search warrant recovering over $1,100 in stolen items.

Following an investigation, police allege that Bratinau had allegedly selected numerous items in Shaw’s Supermarket and left without paying for them.

He was arrested and issued a citation to appear in court to answer the charges.
