DERBY — An 18-year-old woman was arrested following an incident in Derby on Tuesday.
Police say they observed a vehicle traveling south at a high rate of speed while patrolling US Route 5 at around 11:20 p.m.
Radar indicated 70 miles-per-hour in a posted 35 miles-per-hour zone.
The trooper began to turn around to initiate a traffic stop when the vehicle continued traveling south at a high rate of speed and passed two cars in a no-passing zone.
The trooper successfully caught up to the vehicle and pulled it over.
The driver was identified as an 18-year-old woman.
She was taken into custody for the charges of excessive speed and negligent operation and transported back to the Derby barrack for processing.
She was released on a citation to appear in Orleans Family Court.
