Man arrested after single-vehicle crash in Orleans

ORLEANS — A man was arrested after a single-vehicle crash in Orleans early this morning.

The crash took place on Water Street, near B&B Lane, at around 12:50 a.m.

According to the report, the driver was traveling north on Water Street when the vehicle left the road for unknown reasons, and crashed into and damaged two utility poles.

Police say both occupants in the vehicle fled the scene.

The driver was identified as, Samuel Barbeau, 27, of Orleans.

Police say Barbeau suffered minor injuries because of the crash but declined medical attention.

He was transported to Northern State Correctional Facility to be held for detox.

Police believed the passenger in the vehicle suffered injuries in the crash but were unable to locate her until much later.

Barbeau is being charged with criminal threatening, but police say further charges may result following the investigation.

Police were assisted on the scene by members of the Orleans Fire Department, Orleans Ambulance, Newport Ambulance, Wright’s Towing, and Orleans Village Electric Department.
