NEWPORT — U.S. Rep. Peter Welch’s Senate campaign on Monday launched the “Welch Wagon” 14-county tour across Vermont in Orleans county.
The tour included visits with small business owners, and community leaders, and provided voters a chance to speak with Rep. Welch.
His Orleans county visit started with a visit to Derby Town Park.
Rep. Welch secured more than $500,000 last year for improvements to the park through Congressional Community Project Funding grants.
He was joined by community members and local officials to celebrate the funding and discuss the benefits of recreational spaces for community health and wellbeing in the area.
Other local stops included Newport’s Natural Market and Cafe where he had lunch, a community visit at the Pick and Shovel, and a farm visit at Butterworks Farm in Westfield.
Rep. Welch will meet with and listen to Vermonters in all 14 counties over the coming weeks.
“It’s a privilege for me to wake up every day and try to help Vermonters address their challenges as their Member of Congress,” Welch said. “I have always tried to bring the Vermont Way to Washington throughout my career in Congress, and that starts with listening to Vermonters in their own communities.”
