Authorities identify victim in fatal Rockingham fire

ROCKINGHAM — Police have identified a man who perished in a fatal fire that broke out in Rockingham last week.

The victim has been identified as 95-year-old John Shibley.

On August 25, authorities say they were notified of the structure fire that broke out at a home on Old River Road.

The single-family residence was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, and the homeowner was trapped inside.

A family member attempted to reach Shibley who was in a separate part of the residence, but her efforts were unsuccessful.

She was able to exit the residence after sustaining minor injuries and was transported to Springfield Hospital for treatment.

The origin and cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
