SPRINGFIELD — Authorities are investigating a death that occurred in Springfield yesterday.
An inmate at Southern State Correctional Facility was found deceased at around 3:05 p.m.
As per protocol with any death of an inmate, detectives with the State police responded to the facility and initiated an investigation.
Police say the name of the inmate is not being released until next of kin has been notified.
This death does not appear suspicious, investigators say.
An autopsy with be performed to determine the cause and manner of death.
Police say no other information is being released at this time.
