BURLINGTON — Police are investigating after shots were fired in Burlington on Sunday.
Authorities were notified by multiple 911 calls for sounds of gunshots in the vicinity of Roosevelt Park, then additional calls for a medical emergency and a victim with apparent gunshot injuries at around 6:50 p.m.
Police say they located an uninvolved person who was in a private yard away from the street where the shots occurred.
The victim sustained injuries apparently caused by ballistics material when they arrived.
They were transported to UVMMC out of an abundance of caution and returned home in good condition.
Officers and detectives also recovered additional ballistics evidence and canvassed extensively, speaking with witnesses and neighbors.
It is currently believed that rounds were fired in the vicinity of St Mary’s Street and Willow Street, although investigation may reveal additional locations.
Police say this investigation is in the earliest stages.
This shooting is the 12th gunfire incident of 2022.
The BPD defines a gunfire incident as an incident for which police have probable cause that a firearm was discharged and reasonable suspicion that it was discharged in a criminal manner.
Police say not all gunfire incidents are shootings, in which a person is struck, although this incident is both a gunfire incident and a shooting.
Anyone with information about this incident is being asked to contact the Burlington Police Department at 802-658-2704.
