BRATTLEBORO — A man was struck by a train while fishing in Brattleboro on Thursday.

The incident took place at the North Bridge on Putney Road.

Emergency responders say they found the man lying in the water, and was conscious and alert.

He was transported to the hospital where he was life-flighted to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center for further observation.

Police say the investigation is ongoing but it appears the man was fishing off the bridge when the train came through.

Brattleboro police released a statement warning people to stay off all train bridges and tracks.

The trains come through at a high rate of speed and are surprisingly quiet when they are going down the tracks.

Trains are unable to stop quickly making it very dangerous for anyone to be on the tracks at all.
