WILLIAMSTOWN — Police are investigating a fatal crash in Williamstown yesterday.
The tractor-trailer rollover crash took place on Vermont Route 64 at around 1:20 p.m.
According to the report, the tractor-trailer was traveling east prior to the crash.
Witnesses told police that its brakes were smoking.
The truck flipped onto its side while attempting to navigate a sharp corner and subsequently left the traveled portion of the road.
The truck slid into a ditch and came to a position of uncontrolled rest on its roof.
The driver was transported to Central Vermont Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Police say a passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash by EMS.
The identities of the operator and passenger are being withheld at this time pending notification of next of kin.
The road was closed for approximately 5 hours.
