Concerned citizen alerts police to DUI in Mendon

MENDON — A 74-year-old man from New Jersey was charged with DUI following an incident in Mendon yesterday.

Authorities say they were notified of a motor vehicle complaint on US Route 4 at around 3:40 p.m.

Dispatch told police that a caller reported a vehicle driving erratically, traveling west, and provided a description.

Police say they located the vehicle in a parking lot off US Route 4 in Mendon.

While identifying the driver, John S. Cummings, of Red Bank, NJ, police say they observed signs of impairment.

He was asked to perform standard field sobriety exercises.

Following tests, police allege that Cummings was under the influence of alcohol.

He was transported to the State Police barracks in Rutland where he was processed for DUI.

He was issued a criminal citation to appear in court to answer the charge.
