Man who stole car in Swanton arrested in New Hampshire

SWANTON — A 32-year-old man from St. Albans was arrested following an incident in Swanton yesterday.

Authorities say they were notified of a vehicle theft from a home on Saint Albans Road at around 4:55 a.m.

Police say the owner of the vehicle was able to utilize a GPS service to track the location of her vehicle.

Using the owner’s GPS data, it was found that the stolen vehicle had crossed into the State of New Hampshire.

State Police alerted New Hampshire State Police and local New Hampshire Police agencies.

Troopers with New Hampshire State Police located the occupied stolen vehicle.

When they attempted to stop it, the driver fled.

New Hampshire Troopers pursued the vehicle and apprehended the suspect on foot near the vehicle.

New Hampshire State Police identified the suspect as William Blanchard.

Blanchard was arrested and is facing multiple criminal charges in the State of New Hampshire.

Probable cause was also established to charge Blanchard criminally in the State of Vermont with operating without the owner’s consent and grand larceny.
