Colchester man climbs on car stopped in traffic, smashes windshield

COLCHESTER — A 45-year-old man is facing multiple charges following a bizarre incident in Colchester yesterday.

The incident took place on College Parkway, near Campus Road, at around 6:45 p.m.

Police say that Edward Lydecker, of Colchester, was crossing College Parkway on foot when traffic yielded to him.

Lydecker then climbed on top of a stopped car and smashed the windshield.

He then punched the windshield of a St. Michael’s Fire engine and became combative with St. Michael’s College Public Safety Officers.

Colchester Police Officers arrived on the scene and after a brief struggle was able to place Lydecker into custody.

Police say while in custody Lydecker spit on an officer.

Lydecker was charged with simple assault, aggravated disorderly conduct, unlawful mischief, and assault on a protected professional with bodily fluids.

Colchester Police were assisted by Colchester Fire, Colchester Rescue, St. Michael’s Rescue, St. Michael’s Public Safety, and the Essex Police Department.
