MONTPELIER — Two people were arrested for selling drugs which results in the death of a man in Montpelier last year.

In September of 2021, the Montpelier Police Department responded to the Econo Lodge Hotel for a report of a 22-year-old man unresponsive in a room at around 12:10 p.m.

The man, identified as Matthew A Hayes, was found deceased in the hotel room of a suspected drug overdose.

Detectives worked for several months to identify the suspects who provided Hayes with the drugs that ultimately caused his death.

Following an investigation, Rennee Guy, 28, of Williamstown, and Cindy Abbott, 51 of Barre, were cited into court to answer to the charge of selling or dispensing a regulated drug with death resulting.

Guy and Abbott, who are both currently incarcerated, are scheduled to appear in court today to answer the charge.
