CHELSEA — A 44-year-old man was arrested on multiple charges following an incident in Barnard yesterday.
Authorities say they were notified by Martha Cook, 58, of Hartland, that her vehicle was stolen from her place of work at around 10:50 a.m.
Police say the vehicle was located at a home in Chelsea where Shawn Carpenter stole a separate vehicle belonging to Leyna Hoyt, 41, of Chelsea.
Police attempted to stop Carpenter and he struck an occupied police cruiser and attempted to leave the scene.
Carpenter caused significant damage to the yard while attempting to elude.
Troopers on the scene were able to take Carpenter into custody for the charges of aggravated operation without consent, operating without owners consent, unlawful mischief, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, violation of conditions of release, attempting to elude.
Carpenter was held on $5,000 and issued with conditions and issued a citation to appear in court to appear today.
