MONTPELIER — Police responded to several local crashes yesterday.

A two-vehicle crash took place at the town line on Northfield Street/Route 12, involving a rental box truck and an SUV.

Although the crash is still under investigation, police say it was likely caused by the truck pulling out from a driveway into the path of the SUV, sending them both off the road into the ditch.

There were no reported injuries and Route 12 was shut down briefly so the vehicles could be removed.

Later, police were dispatched with the Montpelier Fire Department to another two-vehicle crash on Berlin Street/Route 2, near the intersection with Main Street/Memorial Drive/Northfield Street.

Police say this crash was also likely caused by one vehicle pulling into the path of another from a business driveway.

There were no significant injuries and Berlin Street/Route 2 was reduced to a single lane of westbound traffic while the scene was cleaned up.

The crash caused the vehicles to become locked together and required significant time and effort to remove.

Crews had to detach the door of one of the cars to get them apart.
