Crash in Rutland leads to DUI charges

RUTLAND — A 65-year-old woman from Rutland was arrested for DUI following a crash in Rutland on Saturday.

The two-vehicle crash took place on US Route 4, near the area of Little Caesar’s, at around 6:30 p.m.

Police identified one of the drivers as Elizabeth Thompson when they arrived.

According to the report, the vehicle driven by Thompson entered US Route 4 from the Little Caesar’s parking lot.

A vehicle driven by Shahleek Maxwell, 21, of Middlesex, NJ, swerved, striking an oncoming vehicle causing minor contact damage to the rear driver’s side quarter panel.

While speaking to Thompson, police say they observed several indicators of impairment.

She was arrested for suspicion of DUI and transported to the Rutland barracks for processing.

At the conclusion of processing, she was issued a citation to appear in court at a later date and time.
