SHAFTSBURY — A 53-year-old man from North Bennington is facing multiple charges following an incident that took place in Shaftsbury back in November of 2021.

On November 18, authorities say they were notified of a mental health call on Sycamore Lane at around 2:30 p.m.

United Counseling Services and Arlington Rescue Squad say they were able to help the individual receive proper mental health treatment.

Following an investigation of the incident, police say they discovered various offenses were being committed.

Police allege that Todd E. Maddox had been exploiting a vulnerable adult through the means of obtaining prescription medicine from the individual.

While speaking with the victim and a witness, police also allege that Maddox had spoken with the victim in an attempt to obstruct an ongoing investigation.

Probable cause was developed after more details were revealed about the incident, police say.

As a result, this week Maddox was released with a citation to appear in court to answer the charges of financial exploitation, prescription fraud, exploitation of services, and obstruction of justice on March 7
