PUTNEY — Two men from New York were arrested following an incident in Putney on Sunday.

Police say they were contacted by a homeowner on Shag Bark Hill that an out-of-state vehicle crashed at around 6:40 p.m.

Following an investigation, police say that the vehicle in question, a U-Haul rental van, was stolen.

The passenger, Marlon Scott, of Rochester, NY, and the driver, Michael Peterson, of Brooklyn, NY, were both taken into custody and transported to the Westminster State Police barracks.

Police allege Scott provided a family member’s identification in an effort to impede law enforcement.

After being properly identified, it was found that Scott was wanted in New York on an outstanding warrant.

Scott was issued a criminal citation to appear in court to answer to the charges of aggravated operation without the owner’s consent, possession of the stolen property, false information to a law enforcement officer, and fugitive from justice.

Peterson was issued a criminal citation to appear in court to answer to the charges of aggravated operation without owner’s consent, possession of the stolen property, possession of cocaine, as well as transportation and trafficking of heroin.

Both were later lodged at Southern State Correctional Facility.
