The vehicle that hit them had fled from the scene, police say.

Police received a tip that a vehicle matching the description of the one that had fled was located a few miles from the scene in a driveway located on Fisk Road in Barton.

Following an investigation, police allege that Larry Bernard was the driver of the other vehicle.

While speaking to Bernard, police say he displayed multiple signs of impairment.

Bernard was arrested for suspicion of DUI and transported to the Derby barracks for processing.

He was later released with a citation to appear in court for the charges of DUI and leaving the scene of an accident.
