Deer causes crash, vehicle fire in Orwell

ORWELL — A 17-year-old juvenile from New York was injured after hitting a deer in Orwell yesterday.

The crash took place on Vermont Route 22A at around 6:15 p.m.

According to the report, the juvenile driver was headed north when a deer ran into the road.

The vehicle hit the deer and came to rest in the southbound lane facing north.

The vehicle then caught fire.

Police say the juvenile suffered minor injuries and was transported to Porter Hospital by Middlebury Regional EMS.

Orwell First Response and Orwell Fire Department responded to the scene as well.

Both lanes of Vermont Route 22A were shut down until the fire was extinguished and the road was salted.
