Driver crashes into telephone pole in Williamstown

WILLIAMSTOWN — An impaired driver crashed into a telephone pole in Williamstown on Sunday.

State police responded to the report of a single-vehicle crash at around 5:40 p.m.

Troopers arrived on the scene and made contact with the driver, identified as James Ranker, 78, of Northfield.

Police say Ranker was showing signs of being under the influence of intoxicants.

After he was medically cleared by EMS, he was taken into custody and transported to the State Police barracks in Middlesex for processing.

He was issued a citation to appear in Orange County Superior Court to answer the charge of DUI.
