WINOOSKI — An arrest was made after a vehicle was stolen from the Marketplace Parking Garage in Winooski on Tuesday.
The incident took place on South Winooski Avenue at around 9:15 p.m.
The victim told police that their purse was stolen from a local business on College Street that contained their car keys and other valuable property.
A short time later, the victim returned to her vehicle parked in the parking garage to find the vehicle gone.
Surveillance cameras inside the parking garage recorded a man and woman walking through the parking garage clicking the key’s unlock button to locate the vehicle.
After locating the vehicle, the man and woman drove away.
On Thursday, Israel Rentas, 46, was taken into custody at the University Mall in South Burlington, when he was headed back to the stolen car which was spotted parked.
Police say he tried to get rid of the keys before police nabbed him.
Rentas is charged with possession of stolen property, retail theft, and aggravated operating without the owner’s consent.
