NEWPORT — Today, Lieutenant Governor Molly Gray (D) announced her campaign to represent Vermont in the U.S. House of Representatives.

She is the first candidate to announce her campaign for the open seat vacated by Congressman Peter Welch, who announced on November 15 his run for the U.S. Senate to replace Senator Patrick Leahy, who will not be seeking reelection.

A lifelong Vermonter, Gray, 37, was born and raised in South Newbury, on a vegetable and dairy farm still operated by her family today.

She has served Vermont in Washington as an aide to Congressman Welch, statewide as an Assistant Attorney General, and now as Lieutenant Governor.

She was sworn in as Vermont’s 82nd Lieutenant Governor on January 7, 2020.

If elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2022, she will be the first woman in Vermont history to hold federal office.
