BENNINGTON — The Vermont Search and Rescue Team received a special thank you from the 10-year-old son of a hiker they recently assisted.
The incident took place in the Glastonbury Wilderness area in the Green Mountain National Forest.
“My dad took the day to hike in Vermont but his phone ran out of power and it got dark,” the letter reads. “He would still be lost if you didn’t go out there to rescue him. Thank you so much.”
Along with the thank you note, the hiker’s son sent a hand-drawn illustration of his father’s difficult day.
State police are reminding hikers to be sure to have adequate cold-weather clothing, traction devices for their boots, and a backup paper map in case their phone runs out of battery.
