Snow causes head-on collision in Mendon

MENDON — Police say heavy snowfall caused a head-on collision in Mendon yesterday.

The crash took place on US Route 4 at the intersection of Woodward Drive, at around 3:45 p.m.

According to the report, a juvenile driver from Florence, Vermont, was traveling east on US Route 4 before losing traction due to accumulating snow on the roadway.

The vehicle crossed the center line into the westbound lane and struck Rachel Bethmann 26, of Rutland.

Bethmann told police she saw the vehicle enter the westbound lane, but could not avoid the collision.

The crash rendered both vehicles inoperable, but police say there were no injuries reported.

Both vehicles were removed by Killington Auto and Moonlight Towing, and Rutland City Fire also responded to the crash.

Police list speed and weather conditions as contributing causes of the crash.
