WEST RUTLAND — Police responded to a two-vehicle crash with injuries in West Rutland yesterday.
The crash took place on Business Route 4 at around 6:50 a.m.
One of the drivers involved in the crash had fled the scene.
Police say the vehicle continued westbound on Main Street north of Barnes Street where the vehicle crossed the center lane line into the eastbound lane exiting the road off the north shoulder.
The driver, identified as Brian Amerio, 60, of Center Rutland, had damaged a telephone pole, fencing, and a sign in the St. Bridget St. Stanislaus Kostkas Church Cemetery.
Amerio was transported to the hospital by Regional Ambulance Service because of his injuries.
Police say Amerio had an extremely low blood sugar count at the time of the crash.
West Rutland Fire Department, Regional Ambulance Service, Green Mountain Power, and Boondock Motors assisted at the crash.
