Pownal man arrested after crashing into house, two injured

POWNAL — A 30-year-old man was arrested on multiple charges following a crash in Pownal on Tuesday.

Authorities were notified that a motor vehicle crashed into a house on Route 346 at around 8:15 p.m. 

Police say the witnesses observed the driver, who was identified as Robert Viores, of Pownal, operating at a high rate of speed ultimately losing control of the vehicle and crashing into the house.

Police say he fled the scene on foot. 

Witnesses chased Viores on foot and held him on the ground until troopers arrived.

Police say Viores showed signs of alcohol impairment and was taken into custody.

He was charged with aggravated assault, gross negligent operation, DUI – alcohol, and duty to stop. 

He was ordered to be held without bail with a court date of July 21 at the Bennington Superior Court.

Police say the victims were transported to SVMC and treated for what is believed to be non-life threatening injuries at this time.
