NEWPORT — The Newport Farmers opened up the season on Saturday.
The market will run every Saturday until October 16, and Wednesday markets will start on June 2.
This year the market has more than a dozen new vendors.
There are three new food vendors, including a hot dog cart, a barbecue vendor, a grilled hamburger vendor, and returning after a one-year absence is Smokin’ Blue Devil BBQ.
Other new vendors will have doughnuts, bagels, eggs, plant starts, wooden signs, iced coffee, plant propagations, sauerkraut, jellies, wind chimes, scarves, teddy bears, paintings, face painting, and pork, chicken, and lamb.
The city and the market have the same arrangements as last year, so the market will continue to be located at the same site on the Causeway.
The market is a Farm-to-Family coupon site, which will start at the beginning of July, and also has an EBT and debit and credit machine.
Customers can buy tokens to spend at the appropriate vendor booths.
Local vegetables will be limited at first, but whenever the seasonal veggies come in they will be available.
Tomato, pepper, and other starter plants will also be available.
