BARTON — After a year’s hiatus due to COVID-19 restrictions, demo derbies are set to return to the Orleans County Fairgrounds this year.
The first demo will be held on Sunday, May 30, at 6 p.m., with three classes competing that evening.
They include a four-cylinder ladies-only class, a four-cylinder class for men and women, as well as a pickup truck and SUV class combined.
The date for the event during the Orleans County Fair will be on Sunday, September 12, at 1 p.m.
The demo returns to a one-day event this year after being separated into two nights for the last three years.
Classes include four-cylinder, six-cylinder, eight-cylinder, mini-vans, as well as four-cylinder pickups and full-size pickups and SUVs.
“We are extremely excited to bring back the demo derby to Barton,” said Dick Therrien, operator of the demo derby for the Orleans County Fair Association.
Therrien says it was a big loss in 2020, and unless health rules change, they will be asking everyone to wear a mask in the pit area and the grandstands as well.
The pits will open at 2 p.m. on May 30 with vehicle inspections set to start at 2:30 p.m. All demo vehicles must be in the pits no later than 5 p.m.
The grandstands will open at 5:30 p.m.
The demo entry fee is $35 for car and driver, while crew members pay $15.
Participants may pre-enter and reserve a number with a credit card until May 25.
