Corrections staff member in Newport tests positive for Covid-19

NEWPORT — The Vermont Department of Corrections announced today that staff members at four correctional facilities tested positive for COVID-19 this week.

One was at Northern State Correctional Facility in Newport, one at Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility, one at Northwest State Correctional Facility, and two at Southern State Correctional Facility.

Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility is on full lockdown pending test results from a presumed positive staff member.

In total, 38 DOC staff members have tested positive for COVID-19 since March.

No incarcerated individuals are currently positive at this time.

The DOC says staff is tested every two weeks, with three facilities tested weekly, in order to detect and mitigate the presence of COVID-19 in Vermont correctional facilities.
