Newport police seeking shooting suspect, 2 facing charges

NEWPORT — Police arrested and charged two Connecticut men in connection with a shooting that took place yesterday morning in Newport.

Investigators say they have identified the alleged shooter and are seeking to bring him into custody as well.

According to the report, Wilfredo Cerpa, 23, of Hartford, was charged with accessory after the fact of second-degree attempted murder.

Michael Alamo, 23, also of Hartford, was charged with unlawful restraint.

Newport Police have obtained an arrest warrant and are actively seeking to locate Jaquan Flintroy, 26, of Hartford, who has been identified as the alleged shooter.

He is wanted on a charge of second-degree attempted murder.

The victim in the shooting has been identified as Donta Flowers, 44, of Hartford.

Flowers was transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center and is in stable condition.

Investigators say the shooting took place in the backseat of a white sedan following an argument.

The vehicle, which was allegedly driven by Cerpa, with Alamo as the front passenger, fled the scene shortly after the shooting occurred.

Police say all of the subjects involved in yesterday’s incident are known to each other.

Cerpa was held on $50,000 bail and Alamo was held on $25,000 bail.

Both were arraigned at 1 p.m. today at the Orleans District Court.

The investigation remains ongoing police say.
