NEWPORT — Orleans County Restorative Justice Center board chair Steven Mason recently announced that Cindy Swanson, of East Charleston, has joined the board.

Swanson is the Coordinator of Teaching and Learning at Newport’s Community College of Vermont.

One of her responsibilities there is to build programmatic partnerships with businesses, employers, and other community partners.

She brings a wealth of teaching, nonprofit, and community experience to the current board of directors.

Swanson holds a Master’s in Fine Arts from Tyler School of Art at Temple University (PA).

The Justice Center empowers the community to restore relationships harmed by conflict, address the underlying roots of conflict and crime, and improve the quality of life in the community.

It has several projects related to this mission, including a free legal clinic, the kids of incarcerated parents project, a vibrant volunteer program to help people returning from jail, and a panel to divert cases from traditional court.
