NEWPORT — Northeast Kingdom Learning Services (NEKLS) and Ready, Set, Grow Childcare recently announced a free training program in the NEK called “Step Up to Childcare.”
Over eight weeks this fall, students interested in a career in childcare will be able to access a free training program, culminating in a paid internship at Ready, Set, Grow Childcare in Newport.
The program, based at the NEKLS Learning Center on Main Street in Newport, highlights the opportunity to receive career training, access to certifications needed to work as a childcare provider, is data-driven, and allows participants a hands-on internship at a local business.
Led by Annie Christoni and Markus Vogt, interested parties will go through an application process at the end of September and then head into an eight-week course that includes all the fundamentals needed to find success as a childcare provider in Vermont.
The group says background checks are required.
Let’s Grow Kids, a State-Wide initiative dedicated to providing affordable access to childcare in the State of Vermont, states “Employers are critical partners in addressing Vermont’s child care challenges. Child care is often the family support that makes it possible for parents or guardians to go to work, and it is the foundation on which businesses expand, recruit, and retain employment.”
To register or for more information, contact Dawn Powers at 802-995-2051 and/or Markus Vogt at the Newport Learning Center 802-334-2839.
The program anticipates beginning the last week in September and is approximately 10 hours per week.
Ready, Set, Grow Childcare provides childcare in-house along with services from Northeast Kingdom Community Action Headstart.
Meals are provided through a collaboration with Umbrella’s Cornucopia Program and The Northeast Kingdom Children’s Museum will open in 2020.
