NEWPORT — Joshua House Inc. is holding a benefit raffle to raise funds to help neighbors in need.
Founded in Irasburg, Joshua House Inc. is a local nonprofit that has been working to prevent homelessness in Northern Vermont since 1996.
The organization is not a house, but a concept of caring, helping to fill in the gap that sometimes occurs when other helpers have reached a limit or are limited by a restriction.
The current fundraiser has been established to ensure that when the call comes in, they have funds available to assist.
Tickets for the benefit raffle can be purchased at Hillmer’s on Main as well as The Red Wall, next to Hillmer’s.
Tickets are also available at the Hoagie’s in the Waterfront Plaza.
Tim Daley, Deb Vacca, and Alma Marsh are also selling tickets.
The organization says that over the course of the last few months, things have been better for people because of the stimulus money received, allowing them to pay bills that came up.
The funding and circumstances around the pandemic may have eased their burden, but only temporarily.
Working with organizations like NEKCA and Community Partners, Joshua House Inc. helps by paying a bill of varying size, one time only, in a 12-month period.
Not to enable, the organization says, but to provide a hand up.
They receive no federal or state funds to assist the organization.
All money comes from generous individuals and small grants.
Tickets are $10 each or 3 for $25.
There will be 3 tickets drawn on September 7, with 3 choices of prizes.
First prize will receive everything golf, including four green fees to each Barton, Orleans, and Newport Golf Clubs, valued over $400.
The second prize will receive over $225 in gift certificates to Lago’s, Eastside, Hillmer’s, Eden Cider, Shaws, Hoagie’s, and the Derby Line Village Inn.
Third place will get $100.00 cash.
