ISLAND POND — The Island Pond Chamber of Commerce recently announced that the popular Friday Night Live concert series and the July 4th celebration are being canceled for 2020 due to the COVID-19 crisis.

The chamber says they made this decision based on the safety of staff and attendees.

The events draw a minimum of 400 people and upwards of 5,000 for the holiday weekend.

They say they do not see any way that social distancing could be maintained, or that events of this size will even be permitted in the near future.

They also said that these events cost over $50,000 per year to produce and with most of the event sponsors closed or operating under limited conditions, there is less funding available.

The chamber hopes that if things improve through the summer that some smaller events might be able to be added.
